Fat means Healthy...?!

I'm eating varieties of food these days and drink lots of water but only if gripe water is added. I really didn't like gripe water in the beginning but now I can't drink without it! This is how a habit starts - good or bad! Same thing with the dummy. Mum is planning to wean the gripe water and dummy off me since I'm turning ONE in 4 days but all the best to her. She needs it!

Mum bought me a suit for my birthday bash and it is "meant" to be for a one year old but the shirt and trousers seem a wee bit tight on me. She can't exchange the shirt and trousers for a bigger size because the set (shirt, trousers, bow, waistcoat and a coat) comes in its own size and the shop doesn't want to have a set of a 18 month's suit-set without the 18 month's shirt and trouser.  Annoyingly fair enough!

Mum was fussing over the tightness while Dad had a smile on his face. For him, the tightness meant that I'm taller/bigger/fatter than a normal local one year old kid. When I drastically lost weight at the time I caught human swine flu, Dad was very worried and hassled Mum and Helper to feed me more more more. He commented on my weight everyday "Look at him! He is so thin! Only his head is big! Helper is not feeding him properly! I need to install a camera at home!". The weight started increasing slowly and Dad got happier. When people comment that I'm a fat boy, Dad swells up in pride. Mum told him that he better not be too happy when people make the same comment when I turn 10! His answer "Fat means Healthy!". "Not necessarily...!" says Mum. Pointless discussion, really. Did I mention before that they worry too much?

(Pic: This is how Dad likes me - I was 5 months old.)

Adorable! And it's funny what fat and skinny and all other things mean in each culture, isn't it? Glad dad is feeling good about things.

Yes, you are right! Fat's good when little, absolutely to be avoided when they get bigger. Unfortunately, fat kids (vs. fat babies) tend to struggle with their weight much harder than most.

Happy Birthday! I am sure you are doing right by your boy. Not to worry.

It is funny how daddies love chubby babies. My husband is the same way in that he lamented the fact that J is not as chubby as he was in his baby pictures... Duh, he is 5 already! He eats well and is active and I would not want him to be a roly-poly no matter how cute I think that might be.

OMGoodness I agree Fat is good when you're small. Dad has a good reason to love him fat :), that would be very scary with that flu.

hehe love the baby camera idea, I'd be afraid to see what my boys did if I put one up.

Happy Early 1st Birthday!

Yes, Asians do see a fat baby as a healthy baby. If a baby doesn't have baby fat folds, then it is deemed the baby is not well fed. I know, sounds wrong but baby fat does go away once you hit the walking stage.

I have to ask, what is gripe water and a dummy? I must be slow today.

Chubby babies are so cute,

Happy 1st birthday Ash!

My mom and I are guilty of this with my son, Andre. So chubby, just baby fat, no worries, he will grow out of it... He's 13 and we still use the same comments! My hubby has had enough and has taken on the nasty sergeant role and makes him do push-ups and leg lifts and what not to lose some fat and "macho up"... have a blessed weekend!
